Many of us will spend over 100,000 hours ours of our lives working. So it is important that this huge investment in time is something that brings enjoyment and financial reward. Unfortunately many people actually hate what they are doing. They grumble about their jobs but never do anything about it. What they don’t realise is that they are severely limiting their chances of getting a promotion or even a decent increase.
If you have to drag yourself to work each morning with no enthusiasm or sense of purpose, managers will see this negativity and let you dry on the vine. It’s the problem solvers and motivators that catch the boss’s eye. So if you are unhappy in your current job you need to change the job, or your attitude.
We don’t give enough thought to our careers. Sometimes we accept the first job that is offered to us or choose a profession because of parental pressure. For example if our Great Grandfather, Grandfather, and Father were all doctors, we may succumb to ancestral pressure. But, if in our hearts, we want to become horticulturists, well then, we should go and grow flowers.
If you’re in a career that you enjoy, but feel that you are not moving ahead at the rate you would like, maybe you have to answer a difficult question. “am I putting in the required effort” Most people’s knee jerk reaction would be “of course I am”. But if you take days off when you are not ill, or fool around when the boss is out of the office or if you’re persistently late for work, then you’re not giving your all. There is nothing more frustrating for an employer than to see capable, intelligent staff producing far below their abilities or wasting valuable work time.
Creativity comes from a calm pace. If you are stressed and unhappy at work, you won’t display the innovative flair and enthusiasm that employers look for. When there is passion there is progress. The entrepreneur doesn’t work 14 hours a day because he hates it. While he may argue that he has to work that hard, but truthfully he is simply enjoying the pursuit of his dreams. So find a job you love, and a good income should be a natural by- product.
Pursue a career u love, & a respectable income (relative to that vocation) will be a natural by- product
